Exploring the Brutalist Architecture and Gaussian Digitization of the Montreal Metro.
The Underground Chronicles project embarks on a fascinating journey, diving into the heart of Montreal’s emblematic metro. With a blend of architectural curiosity and digital innovation, this firm seeks to unravel the enigmatic appeal of Brutalist architecture while harnessing the power of Gaussian scanning to capture its essence.
Exploring brutalist architecture:
At the heart of the project is a deep appreciation of brutalism, an architectural style characterized by its raw concrete facades and geometric shapes. The Montreal metro is a quintessential example of this movement, featuring a network of underground structures that exude both grandeur and simplicity. By delving into the depths of these underground spaces, we aim to dissect the aesthetic principles and social contexts that underpin Brutalist design.

Michael Trommer is a Toronto-based sound and video artist. He initially gained attention for leftfield house and techno records produced under the moniker ‘sans soleil’, which were released on such legendary record labels as Derrick May’s Detroit-based Transmat as well as François K’s New York imprint Wave Music.
Since the early 2000s, his practice has taken an experimental turn, focusing on psychogeographical and acoustemological explorations of anthropocentric space via the use of field recordings, spatial and tactile sound, VR, immersive installation and expanded cinema. He has released, exhibited and performed his work for labels, galleries and festivals throughout the world.
In addition to teaching graduate sound design and sound art at George Brown College, Michael also teaches Sound Film at Toronto Metropolitan University, Think Tank at OCAD University as well as Media Practice and Sonic Cinema at York University, where he is currently a PhD candidate and SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier doctoral scholar in Cinema and Media Art.
